About ten complaints were lodged by of retirees living in the North, the Pas de Calais and Normandy. They have all been swindled by a fake native craftsman of Hénin-Beaumont between the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2021. The total loss is very high, it is estimated at 169,000 euros.
Dozens of victims
The individual targeted vulnerable people aged between 75 and 90 and offered them pruning or roof repair work. It was the children and grandchildren of the victims who saw that the start was not correct: quotes were not regulated and prices were beyond reasonable.
The police investigation made it possible to identify a Heninese who was camouflaging himself behind self-employed companies. It raged on the Lensoise region, the Lille region, the coast and sometimes in Normandy.
Arrested and placed in police custody, he admitted all the facts with which he was accused, including the hidden work because he did not declare the large sums he was receiving. The general investigation unit of the Lens police station has therefore put an end to 3 years of scams.
