Tougher conditions in the aviation industry – Dagsavisen
Redundancies in the airline SAS must apply for a job again, and then they must accept worse conditions. The management of Norwegian asks employees to work more in high seasons. The unions are meritoriously opposed.
SAS will create a new subsidiary next year. Both companies will have their own aircraft and human stations at the largest hub, initially in Copenhagen. The goal is also to establish own bases in Oslo and Stockholm.
– It creates great unrest among the employees at SAS gets new companies, which must undercut in pay and working conditions, says Martinius Røkkum to Dagens Næringsliv. He heads the Norwegian YS club for cabin crew in SAS. Røkkum says that many of the members are worried about the future and feel unwanted by their own employer. The frustration is great.
It is high time that employees in groups get stronger job security.
The head of the Scandinavian SAS Pilot Group, Martin Lindgren, believes that SAS circumvents the rules for re-employment and business transfers. But he admits that there is legal ambiguity here. SAS, for its part, claims that the changes in the SAS Group are in line with current legislation and collective agreements. Lindgren does not rule out that the dispute may have in court.
The majority in and government-appointed committees propose that the legislation be strengthened in this area. The employer representatives in the Fougner committee have admittedly turned their thumbs down, but the representatives of the trade union movement got the independent experts on their side. Thus, it became the majority to use a strengthened job protection, among other things when it comes to groups. Group formations have still become commonplace. One million Norwegian employees work in group-like companies.

The red-green government, which will soon see the light of day, should follow up on proposals from the majority of the Fougner Committee. It is high time that employees in groups get stronger job security. It should also be investigated how the legislation can prevent companies’ pieces from working to get «cheaper» away from entrance collective agreements.
CEO Geir Karlsen of Norwegian Want does more seasonal work, in order to get better financially through challenging winter seasons. The leader of the Norwegian Cabin Association, René-Charles Gustavsen, warns the airline against proceeding with these thoughts. In that case, the management will “meet employees who are standing with their arms crossed and a tight gaze”. The cabin crew turn their thumbs down for seasonal downsizing. Rather want more predictability.

Like other airlines, Norwegian and SAS are struggling financially. The corona pandemic naturally has enough before minimal flight activity, but now I’m about to pick up again. The employees have had to take a lot of the noise during the pandemic. Many have been fired or laid off. But employees must not become a new balancing item in normal times. It will be a major setback for the Norwegian model of society.
