Another restriction for drivers on the D1: the expansion to six lanes near Brno will begin
“So far, we have an expansion planned for eight years and we will see how it goes. Time will be a significant item in the competitions,” said Fiala. According to him, the priority will be that the restrictions can be so-called, so that traffic does not collapse due to an excess of restrictions. The construction of the motorway will be signed to the extent that next section will show next year. This is one of the busiest sections of the Czech motorways.
According to the 2016 census, 70,000 cars drove through it every day, which is comparable to the three-lane section of the D1 near Prague between the 15th and 21st kilometers, ie before the descent to Benešov. Traffic on the Brno section is sometimes not smooth, even if nothing extraordinary is happening on the highway, because there are simply too many cars.
According to Fiala, road users will try to use as many procedures as possible, which have proven to be a great modernization. However, it will be a difficult construction also because the motorway runs around Brno along a large number of bridges, including, for example, a bridge over the railway corridor to Břeclav. “He will always ride in two lanes in each direction,” said Fiala.
The extension of the motorway will also include a new exit to the Černovická terasa industrial zones, which was last spoken about in 2014, when it was decided whether the Brno representatives wanted a giant Amazon warehouse in the zone. This will significantly relieve some roads in Slatina, which are congested with trucks.
Intensity in the extended section in 2016 ranged from 40,000 cars between the 201st and 203rd kilometers to the aforementioned 70,000 between the 194th and 196th kilometers. The realization is that the number of trucks continues to grow and will be significantly higher if the D52 motorway from Pohořelice to the Austrian border is completed one day. The widening of the motorway should thus help the flow of traffic. The question is whether the completion of the D55 motorway along the Morava River and the D1 motorway around Přerov will relieve Brno of transit traffic. From Bratislava in the direction of Ostrava, it will then be possible to drive on the motorway without entering Brno.
