Preliminarily, the repair is scheduled for October and November this year, but according to the municipality, the deadline is not yet fixed and the beginning of the work will probably postpone it.
“We will know the exact date of the Argentine within two weeks, it will take place in coordination with the reconstruction of the tram line on Bubenské nábřeží,” says Adam Scheinherr, Prague’s deputy for transport.
All traffic in the section will be in both directions in the opposite lane from Bubenská Street to Plynární. The project has been prepared by the Technical Administration of Communications (TSK) since the beginning of the year.
“However, it will depend on the coordination of all constructions if the relevant road administration department allows us to reconstruct it,” explains TSK spokeswoman Barbora Lišková.
“Repairs may not start in October, it is a prerequisite for what we would like,” the spokesman added.
If the reconstruction of Argentinská began in the tenth month, TSK would carry out the modification of the road at the same time as the closure of the Edvard Beneš embankment and the already mentioned Wilsonova street, which is to end in November. However, the reduced capacity of the main road could be a problem for drivers even without traffic restrictions in other parts of Prague.
“It’s a backbone communication. The restrictions will burden the surrounding street, such as Jankovcova or Dělnická streets, “says transport expert Zdeněk Lokaj from CTU. “Of course, the drivers will be looking for an alternative, so it is possible that the narrowing will try to go around Rohanská or possibly on the other side,” Lokaj explains.
Fighting for traffic
The current coordination of transport structures and the September column express the relations between the coalition and the opposition in the municipality. At the last council, politicians discussed transport for several hours. The opposition does not like the municipality’s approach to planning repairs to roads and closures.
Current deadlines in Prague
Note: All planned or current deadlines and restrictions can be viewed by Praguers on the website opravujeme.to. In addition to the details of the individual construction works, they will also find the expected time of traffic delays in the given areas. Projects can also be filtered by individual city districts.
“Comments from city districts are often not taken into account, so there is a need for a debate on these issues. The coalition led by Mayor Hřib neglects in this part of the city, “opposition representative Stanislav Nekolný (ANO) is angry on social networks.
“With this unsystematic approach, the coalition is leading the whole of Prague into a traffic collapse, which is already happening in some parts of the city,” says Nekolný.
After the leadership of Prague, the opposition mainly wants better coordination of work on roads. Therefore, she proposed the establishment of an agent, who would harmonize the dates of traffic constructions and closures so that the driver restricts as little as possible. The individual projects would be discussed by the authorized person not only within Prague, but also with state organizations, the government and the RSD.
“According to the coalition, construction projects in the field of transport are sufficiently coordinated. There is no problem. At the same time, the patience of drivers is now testing up to eighty deadlines in Prague. They are not planned logically and in a coordinated way, there is no communication with all concerned, so that excavation work limits drivers as little as possible, “says Alexandra Udženija the reason why the Prague ODS proposed a coordinator to prevent these problems.
The deadlines will end in November
However, the management of Prague insists that it coordinates projects. She also emphasized that the city has established several positions in the past, which deal with the time distribution of traffic constructions, modifications and closures and do not need another person.
“The current situation in Prague’s transport is no different from previous years. There is now no refurbishment where the number of lanes on the city ring is reduced to none of the radials, ”Scheinherr responds.
“The only repairs on the main roads are carried out only by ŘSD (state enterprise – editor’s note), hence the Ministry of Transport on the Prague ring road. Reconstructions are taking place near Prague, which are evenly distributed throughout the city inside, ”adds the deputy.
He noted that he took over the transport infrastructure in poor condition after the previous management of the city, and therefore repairs are necessary.
“If we want to rely on our communication and give cars a quality infrastructure, we must repair it. In November, all closures will be completed and we will have several orders of magnitude better road conditions, ”Scheinherr promises.
