The retreat of the epidemic stopped. Prague is the worst off
However, the current weekly decline in newly confirmed cases of coronavirus per day stopped on Monday throughout the Czech Republic. The tests revealed 157 positives, 39 more than a week ago.
The number of people infected last week per 100,000 inhabitants rose to 6.8 from the previous 6.5 on Tuesday. The reproductive number, which indicates the average number of infected from one positive test, also increased slightly. We are now 0.97, just below one, which means a slowdown in the epidemic.
However, a third of new cases fall on Prague. The best is the Hradec Králové region, where about one is infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the past week.
Numbers of new cases in weeks in Prague: | |
June 15 – 21 | 229 cases |
June 22 – 28 | 257 cases |
Developments in Prague do not look good according to the premiere of Andrej Babiš (YES). The epidemic is not over, he said. “We need to continue to be vaccinated and protected from mutations,” he said on Tuesday. He added. that the government will meet extraordinarily on Thursday because of that.
Hygienists are also monitoring the condition with concern. According to them, there may be increased movement of people in the capital for wine.
Respirators remain
Also the Ministry of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES) stated in recent days that the epidemic in Prague is stagnating, even slightly growing. Ladislav Dušek, director of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (ÚZIS), added that the capital behaved in the same way last summer and the new cases mainly concern younger students. The interpretation that bars have opened in the city where people get infected is, according to him, premature.
Prague was already the worst region this year, but experts warned that capitals all over the world have worse cases than other areas.
In addition, due to epidemiological developments, the government did not propose the abolition of respirators indoors. He had previously stated that he could be replaced with surgical drapes from July 1, but on Monday he indicated that respirators are expected until the end of the summer holidays.
From 1 July, however, the obligation to wear a respirator outdoors will be abolished. There is now a need to meet two or more people less than two meters apart, unless they are members of one household.
