We were, we bought, we compared – eXtra.cz
Extra tests
The eXtra.cz editorial office bought seemingly identical goods in Primark in Dresden and Prague. We compared price and quality and we were not surprised. In Germany, where the average salary is higher, you buy many goods cheaper than in our country.
Is it worth going shopping in Dresden?
“We expected discounts, we would buy three times cheaper in Germany,” they turned up the nose of a Czech customer at Václavák in Prague at the opening of the first Czech branch of Primark. The editors of eXtra.cz decided to find out whether it was just their personal feeling or a cruel reality. Will Czech customers really buy more expensive and in poorer quality? We set out to find out the truth.
The first, almost impossible task was to find the same goods abroad and in our country. As we have already informed, the Dresden branch offers a wider selection of goods. You can also buy other pieces there than in the Czech Republic. another problem was size. In the German Primark we bought a white dress size 40, in the Prague store we already found the same dress in a larger number and a different color.
The eXtra.cz editorial staff compared the price and quality of the goods
Socks
We bought training socks. At first glance, they look absolutely the same. The German costs 3.50 €, which is in terms of 89 crowns. Exactly the same socks came out to us in Prague 75 crowns, but only after the discount, when the original amount was pasted over. The original price in the Czech Republic was 90 crowns. Both packs of socks were made in China, were available in the same sizes and had the same packing and the same composition. Both packs of socks also had a “tactile” effect.
Panties
The eXtra.cz editorial staff also bought a three-pack thong-type panties, both of which were available in size M, which is identical to the European numbering 40-42. In the German branch, however, it was much more difficult to obtain this size. In Dresden, a pack of panties cost € 4.50, which is calculated 114.90 crowns. In the Czech Republic, you can get the same packaging for 115 crowns. The packaging was identical, both made in Bangladesh.
Skirt
We tried to buy two similar-looking skirts. The German version of the summer skirt could be purchased for € 14, which is calculated 357.50 crowns. The skirt was made in Vietnam. There was also a skirt made in the Czech Republic, which came out on 365 crowns. The material was different, which we leave unnoticed because it is a different type of skirt. The one purchased in Germany is made of a lighter material.
Dress
We did not find clothes bought in Germany in the Czech Republic in the same color and size. The white dress from Dresden cost € 19, which is calculated 485 crownsbut they also wore a sticker for Czech customers. The price in crowns was stated as higher, so if you wanted to buy a dress in Germany and pay in crowns, you would pay 495 crowns. The same dress, only in a different color and size, was available in Prague for a “more expensive” price, ie for 495 crowns. In addition, each dress was made elsewhere. The white version of the dress from Germany was made in India, the sand version was made in Bangladesh. The dress had a similar effect.
Verdict
At first glance, prices may seem comparable; in the last article we informed about the tape, which could be obtained in Prague for “only” 5 crowns more expensive. It is therefore not worthwhile for Praguers to travel to Dresden because of the couple’s crowns, but it certainly does not pay for people living at the border. But if you relate your purchases to the average salary of a Czech and a German citizen, you will find that Czechs actually pay much more for clothes than Germans, who find shopping in Primark like a complete price bomb. The average salary of a Czech is CZK 38,525, while the average German salary is 106,000 crowns. Each of them looks at each spent five hundred with completely different eyes.
