From October 31, Eurowings will deploy two Airbus A320s and its employees at Václav Havel Prague Airport. From the summer of 2022, a third aircraft will be added to the Prague base. In total, over a hundred jobs are created here, according to the airline.
“Prague Airport will become the home base of another European carrier. We very much appreciate the fact that even after the coronavirus crisis, which has undoubtedly hit us hard, there is interest in Prague, ”says Jakub Puchalský, a member of the Board of Directors of Prague Airport.
He added that from the end of October, the carrier will expand its offer of direct flights from Prague to several European cities, including Barcelona, Milan, Athens, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Tel Aviv and Birmingham, and will also offer connections to popular holiday destinations. For example, the Canary or Balearic Islands.
Air traffic has had to reduce the coronavirus crisis for more than a year. Last year, after years of record passenger numbers, Prague Airport lost 79 percent of its passengers compared to 2019. In total, it handled 3.66 million, which means that in the last 25 years. In recent weeks, however, traffic has been growing steadily. In April, the airport handled almost 102,000 passengers, which is fifteen percent more month-on-month.
At the beginning of the month, Prague Airport announced that during June, flights will fly to more than seven dozen destinations from there. Ryanair or Smartwings, for example, are planning a major revival of traffic, and Iberia, the already mentioned airlines Eurowings and Wizz Air, will also resume flights from Prague. The offer of destinations will double up to the beginning of May.
