Butterflies in Troy are poisonous this time. You will come to the greenhouse through a new entrance
The popular exhibition in the Prague Botanical Garden is later than usual this year. It will take six weeks. After opening in the Fata Morgana Greenhouse greenhouse, thousands of butterflies can go there in addition to visitors. It is possible to see the first batch from yesterday.
“I am pleased to be able to visit the greenhouse again to invite you to our unique butterfly show. These exhibitions have been held in our country since 2004. In 2004, the event did not take place due to the closure of the greenhouse as part of anti-epidemics. This year will last six weeks, “invites Bohumil Černý, director of the Prague Botanical Garden, to the exhibition.
Those interested can look forward to the popular “owl butterflies”, which reach a size of up to 16 centimeters, or blue butterflies of the genus Morpho. As for the most venomous butterfly, it is a migratory monarch. “Venomous butterflies have warning colors: red, orange, yellow alternating with black. However, visitors do not have to be afraid, butterflies are poisonous only for their predators, “says the curator of the exhibition Eva Smržová. Still, he begs people not to touch the butterflies. “The exhibition is a month later this year, so other species than usual will fly in the greenhouse,” adds Smržová. 5,500 pupae of several dozen species of exotic butterflies will gradually arrive in Prague. He’s heading here from a farm in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The godparents of the exhibition were, as usual, celebrities. Moderator and sportswoman Gabriela Soukalová has always been looking forward to a man inviting her to a butterfly collection. “It didn’t happen, so I’m glad I’m here and I can see them,” says Soukalová.
You will get to the greenhouse by getting a new entrance area, which was completed during the pandemic when the area had to be closed. The modern and barrier-free entrance offers, among other things, sitting by the water elements or refreshments in the new restaurant. Next to it is also an educational space.
The butterfly exhibition can be visited from 9 June to 18 July every day except Monday from 9 am to 7 pm. At the behest of the government, there can be a maximum of 100 people inside Fata Morgana.
