Tram boom in Prague. The capital is starting to build two tracks this year, others are in preparation
Prague reckons with the fact that mostly new lines pay from European subsidies.
We expect the inhabitants of Prague to ride on new tram lines in the coming years. Their preparation has had to progress in the last three years, only this year the construction of two sections will begin and the preparation of other main ones has progressed.
The weekend return of trams on the Prague Uprising – Pankrác line symbolically started a wave of other large tram constructions that are being prepared in Prague. There has been talk of extending the tracks for years, but in recent years the city has managed to prepare to reach almost the finals.
Within a few weeks, the construction of a tram line from Barrandov to Holyně will begin. Dopravní podnik hl. The City of Prague already has a selected supplier, which is Strabag. The length of the Barrandov – Holyně line is one kilometer, the temporary final stop of Holyně will be made in the form of a dead center for two-way trams. In the application within the 2nd stage, the track should be extended by one stop to the future Slivenec loops, for which the DPP is processing the documentation for the building permit. The intention is to sell to Holyně by tram line no. 5. The first trams should run on the line next year. Last year, DPP prepared a loop in Barrandov for the expansion of the tram line.
“We have made such progress with the preparation of tram lines and the depoliticisation of important rail projects that we have ahead of the plan of the Strategy for the development of tram lines until 2030 from 2017,“Written on Facebook, Deputy Mayor for Transport Adam Scheinherr (Prague himself).
The next track that is closest to the start of construction is the Modřany – Libuš section, where the competition is already running. The contract is worth 350 million crowns. The new Modřany – Libuš line, 1.7 kilometers long, will have four pairs of stops. It will connect to the current turning point Sídliště Modřany, from where it will lead along Generála Šišky Street to the Libuš housing estate and the intersection with Novodvorská Street, to which it will turn. After Novodvorská Street, it will lead to the future metro station D Libuš, to the level of the current bus stop Pavlíkova, where the dead end will end.
To the Strahov dormitories and to the Central Bohemian Region
The loops under the South Junction can also be considered a new line. The tram line and the loop are being created in connection with the modernization of the 4th corridor and the construction of a new transfer hub Zahradní Město not far from here at the intersection of Průběžná Street and the corridor. According to the DPP, the loop will make it possible to bring to the new interchange all tram connections that do not yet end at the Radošovická turnoff. It’s due to be done in September. The loop is also prepared by DPP at Depot Hostivař, already has a building permit. Preparations for the extension of the tram line from Kobylis to Zdib in the Central Bohemian Region are also underway. It has already successfully passed the environmental impact assessment.
According to Scheinherr, preparations are underway for the extension of the tram line from Divoká Šárka to Dědinská, the line on Wenceslas Square and the new tram connection to the Strahov dormitories already have specific outlines. Prague expects to receive a European subsidy for higher costs for new tram lines.
