Prague wants to identify the location of the bike racks together with the people of Prague
Design the stands now via the application
Now the capital is launching a new pilot mode of stand installation, in which it allows the general public to influence where the stands will be located. The program is currently available to users of the Rekola bikesharing application. However, the municipality also wants to make the system available for other bikesharing applications or for an application that records riding on their own bikes, if they are interested in implementing the service. It is not yet clear whether the municipal service will also provide the given service on a bicycle through Prague. We asked the municipality a question, we update the text in case of an answer.
“We know from surveys among cyclists that they often lack a place to lock their bike and the possibility of a comfortable transfer between the bike and public transport. That is why we are already adding hundreds of stands to the streets. They are also at thirty-three metro stations. We are looking for another ideal location with Dopravní podnik and the goal is to have a stand at each entrance to the metro. But we also want to involve the people of Prague themselves, who know best from their experience where they lack stands. If we want to create a truly user-friendly cycling environment, we mainly need to know the opinion of those who deal with it on a daily basis. “ said the Deputy Mayor of the Capital m of Prague for transport Adam Scheinherr (Prague itself).
1 stand can be designed for 10 rides
“We already provide anonymized data from our application to the City of Prague, which uses the necessary bicycle infrastructure to improve the quality. We have now created a program that allows you not only in our application Rekola directly on the map to select the place where the user would like a new bike stand. The city will obtain the coordinates of the most requested places and, if possible, will build bicycle stands on them. In the event that the site is not directly owned by the Technical Administration of Roads or the city, I will try to find the nearest suitable land, “ said Vít Ježek from Rekola.
The aim is to make the evaluation of bikesharing users objective and to involve people who use the bike regularly, so users of bikesharing and navigation applications will get this opportunity after every tenth ride. The user can design the place practically anywhere, however, the cycle stand can only be created on land managed by the Technical Administration of Roads.
Priority will be given to cycling stands in localities where there is the greatest interest in them. The stands will be designed for all citizens, ie those who use their own and shared bicycles. People can find out more on the site kolostav.cz.
