The northern part of the main road will not go underground for a long time, V Holešovičkách Street will change
One of the busiest road sections in Prague will remain on the surface. The promised dredging or other tunnel solution of V Holešovičkách Street, which is passed by hundreds of thousands of cars a day, is postponed for decades. In the meantime, however, Prague is preparing partial street modifications at the end of next year, which should at least partially improve the environment.

This was stated by Deputy Mayor Adam Scheinherr (Prague himself). According to him, several possibilities have been examined and the deepening has not been proven before the completion of the City Ring Road. “The goal is to dig down the street or find another tunnel solution. However, with the effort of designers and city companies, this will really happen only as one of the last stages in the construction of the City Ring Road. We have examined all possible scenarios and this is the reality of the permitting processes and the entire preparation of such a huge construction, “said Scheinherer.
Poorly breathing babies. The association from Holešovičky filed a lawsuit over the Blanka tunnel
The deepening of the part of the main road, which is also the D8 and D10 road, has been talked about in Prague for over ten years. In 2017, the court even ruled in favor of the Holešovičky association for people and ordered Prague to reduce noise from the main road.
Trees, traffic lines, speed measurement
According to Scheinherr, the city is preparing a package of “relatively quick and effective measures that will make the streets completely transformed.” “It will not be a highway, but the whole section from the crossing with Zenklova to the Barricade Bridge will become a city street,” Scheinherr said.

Silent asphalt should be laid in the whole route, the middle strip will grow green. Unnecessary railings, barriers and highway signs will disappear. Up to 130 trees and 90 shrubs are planted along the street, wider sidewalks are to be created. During the reconstruction planned for the end of next year or the beginning of 2023, a traction line for partial trolleybuses will also be created.
“These measures are preceded by almost two dozen partial measures, such as the commissioning of the radar towards the center, the introduction of a speed of 50 km / h at the entrance to Holešovičky, inspections of cars with a particulate filter removed and buses with a higher EURO standard,” added Scheinherr.
Fewer cars? Osmička wants to change the zoning plan and deepen the radial into the tunnel
The change in the plans of the Prague management is quite surprising. Last year, the Prague 8 City Council even approved a resolution calling for a tunnel option. The management of the Prague City Hall made the V Holešovičkách tunnel in a program statement in 2018.
