Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station will be modernized by Strabag and AŽD Praha for 1.3 billion, they will start in the summer
DPP wants to start a demanding reconstruction this summer. The work will last 2.5 years, the station will be completely closed for ten months.
Dopravní podnik hl. One year after the announcement, the City of Prague (DPP) announced the winner of the tender for one of its largest investments in recent years. A contract for the modernization of the Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station, which has an association of Strabag and AŽD Praha with a price of CZK 1,289 billion. This roughly corresponds to the estimated price (1,291 billion). The offer was submitted by three entities.
DPP wants to start a demanding reconstruction this summer (according to the original plans, it was supposed to start last November). The work will last 2.5 years, which usually has to take ten months, the station will be completely closed. The modernization will include three stages: construction of elevators, repair of the vestibule and platform, and replacement of escalators with new ones. The station will be completely closed in the third stage, when the escalators will be changed.
The modernization will begin with the construction of a pair of elevators. Passengers will now be served by two pairs of elevators. The first is the carrier from the platform to the 60-meter-long transfer corridor, at the end of which there will be a second pair of elevators that the passenger will take to the surface. Escape stairs will also be built around the lifts due to fire regulations. DPP will build a separate kiosk in Vinohradská Street for the outlets of the elevators.
The third stage of station modernization will be the replacement of escalators with new ones. Due to the fact that Jiřího z Poděbrad is a station with one entrance vestibule, in the period from the removal of the current escalators to the commissioning of the new escalators, it will not be possible to enter the vestibule to the platform and vice versa. During this period, which should not exceed 10 months, the sets will only pass through the station.
The old Soviet stairs of the Leningrad type are still in more than a dozen stations. In addition to “Jiřák”, it serves, for example, in the Flora, Želivského, Florenc or Můstek stations. Soviet escalators are faster than newly installed ones. Their speed is 0.9 meters per second, newer stairs usually hit 0.65 meters per second. The higher speed allows the Leningrad stairs an exception to the time of their marketing, which still applies.
The last time these stairs disappeared in 2019 from the Karlovo náměstí station, when visiting the reconstruction, the replacement of escalators was a direct problem. One stage weighs up to 40 kilograms, with new ones the weight is half. The workers first had to cut the machinery before removing it.
