Pay extra. One-off tickets will become more expensive in Prague, coupon prices have remained
PID includes transport in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. The capital subsidizes PID with more than 15 billion crowns a year. The Central Bohemian Region pays additional money for public transport on its territory. In 2015, Prague reduced the annual public transport coupon from the original 4,750 to the current 3,650 crowns.
“If we want and further develop the joint transport system of Prague and the Central Bohemian Region, it was necessary to agree on common times for at least one-time tickets. Prague’s priority was to maintain the price of long-term subscription coupons. per day, “said Deputy Mayor of Prague Adam Scheinherr (Prague Sobě). According to him, the increase in fares is proposed by representatives of the Central Bohemian Region from the ranks of TOP 09, Pirates, ODS and STAN.
Increasing price as a fragment of cooperation
The coverage of costs by revenues in the territory of Prague is affected by increasing offers, the development of infrastructure, discounts and the advantage of subscription fares is constantly decreasing. “If we adjust the costs and revenues for the effects of the coronavirus crisis, the cost covered by revenues in 2020 was enough for 19 percent,” the document approved by councilors said.
“I am glad that the cooperation between Prague and the Central Bohemian Region really works compared to previous years. The increase in fares is only one piece in the mosaic of the restructuring of the sustainable public transport system, which will see the development of rail, trolleybus and tram transport between Prague and the Central Bohemian Region in the coming years. And we have to finance this development somehow, “said Petr Borecký (STAN), a councilor for the Central Bohemian Region.
A novelty will be the fare capping in the PID flyer application. “So passengers spend 120 CZK per day in the application for individual tickets, ie the price of an all-day ticket, so they have free tickets until the end of the day,” said Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates). It will also be simpler to need to prove the age at a discount, for example for seniors, when any card with a photo and it is possible to know the age will be enough for them.
People in material need will have a discount
In addition to raising the price of the fare, the councilors also approved lower fares for people in material need. They would pay 165 crowns for a monthly ride and 444 crowns for a quarterly trip. According to estimates, there are about 5,500 such people in Prague, some of them seniors. The deputy, chairman, representative of Prague Sobě and the mayor of Prague 7, Jan Čižinský, already told ČTK on Friday that he has measures in place for emerging executions. “If he buys a discounted coupon, Prague will have at least some of it,” Čižinský said last Friday.
According to the opposition movement YES, after the increase in rent, water or waste collection, these are further interventions in citizens’ wallets. “The dramatic increase in the one-off fare for all Praguers will hardly offset the discount for people in material need, of whom there are about 5,500 in Prague, it will certainly be a godly deed. We expected the coalition to introduce significant operational savings in DPP, but “,” Said Ondřej Prokop, Vice-Chairman of the YES Representatives.
Last year, the media reported that the current city management wanted to raise the price of the annual coupon again, by a jump of 5,500 crowns. Scheinherr reiterated today that the city is not going to make such an increase.
