In Prague, individual tickets will become more expensive by a quarter, and coupon prices will remain the same
Short-term tickets will become more expensive in Prague Integrated Transport from August – 30-minute tickets from 24 to 30 crowns and 90-minute tickets from 32 to 40 crowns. Prague will thus join the Central Bohemian Region, which has already decided on the price increase. The reason is therefore the cost of operating public transport. The prices of monthly, quarterly and annual coupons in Prague will be maintained. There will also be a new tariff for people in material need.
One-day and three-day tickets will also become more expensive, and tickets for two and five days will now be on sale. In addition to regular tickets, SMS tickets will also become more expensive, half-hour from 24 to 31 crowns, 90-minute from 32 to 42 crowns. The new one will introduce a special ticket at the price of 60 crowns for the cable car to Petřín, and will continue to be free of charge for holders of a long-term coupon. A ride on a special Airport Express bus line will then cost a hundred crowns.
“If we want to maintain the joint transport system of Prague and the Central Bohemian Region, it was necessary to agree on common prices for at least one-time coupons. Prague’s priority was to maintain the price of long-term subscription coupons. day, “said the Deputy Mayor of Prague, Adam Scheinherr (Prague himself). The Central Bohemian Region proposed an increase in fares.
The coverage of costs in the territory of Prague is constantly decreasing due to the market offer, the development of infrastructure, discounts and advantageous fare subscriptions. “If we clean up the costs and write about the effects of the coronavirus crisis, the cost coverage by sales in 2020 would be only 19 percent,” the councilor approved.
Prague Integrated Transport includes transport in Prague and most of the Central Bohemian Region. The capital subsidizes PID with more than 15 billion crowns a year. The Central Bohemian Region pays additional money for public transport on its territory.
“I am glad that the cooperation between Prague and the Central Bohemian Region really works compared to previous years. The increase in prices is only one piece in the mosaic of restructuring the sustainable public transport system, which will see the development of rail, trolleybus and tram transport between Prague and the Central Bohemian Region in the coming years. And we have to finance this development somehow, “said Petr Borecký (STAN), a councilor for the Central Bohemian Region.

Cheap coupons for people in material need
In addition to raising fares, councilors also approved lower fares for people in material need. They paid 165 crowns for the monthly fare and 444 crowns for the quarterly fare. There are an estimated 5,500 such people in Prague, some of whom are seniors. The deputy, the chairman of the Prague deputies and the mayor of Prague 7, Jan Čižinský, said on Friday that the measure was to be carried out by executors. “If he buys a discounted coupon, Prague will have at least some of it,” Čižinský said.
According to the opposition movement YES, after the rent, water or waste collection increases, it is another intervention in the citizens’ wallet. “The dramatic increase in the one-off fare for all Praguers hardly offsets the discount for people in material need, of which there are about 5,500 in Prague. It is certainly a godly deed. , “Said Ondřej Prokop, Deputy Chairman of the YES.
Last year, the media reported that the current city management wanted to increase the price of the annual coupon, jumping to 5,500 crowns. Scheinherr has now reiterated that the city is not going to make such an increase.
Witowski: I’m not a gravedigger of Prague’s public transport. I can’t promise there will be no drastic cuts
If someone describes a reduction in transport performance by 8% as devastation, then they probably do not understand the meaning of the word, says the head of Dopravní podnik. | Video: Daniela Drtinová
