Sculptures for Zbraslav – Prague 16
Building on the recent history of Zbraslav connected with the sculptural collections of the Prague National Gallery and incorporating the art of contemporary authors into the public space for a long time are two key motivations of the PLACES ’21 / SCULPTURES FOR ZBRASLAV project. Its basic concept caters to the exceptionally varied landscape at the disposal of this part of the city and tries to find a living contextuality with a specific place through works, not only in terms of landscape, but also social and ideological. The expressive format will focus primarily on the current concept of sculpture, object and installation.
The first year of the cycle PLACES ’21 / SCULPTURES FOR ZBRASLAV will present a selection of several works by respected and well-known personalities – Jiří David, Vojtěch Míča and Pavel Hošek. For most of the work, this will not be the first place in their lives. The works will be placed on the sites from April this year to February 2022to have a chance to become an organic part of the living urban environment. Thematic exhibitions are also being considered in the future, reflecting local cultural, historical, social meanings. The intention of the project draws attention to a prudent and responsible approach to working with urban space, which is not only perceived as utilitarian in the first place.
