Prague has canceled the plan for the reconstruction of the Opatov hotel, and is considering demolishing it
The reconstruction of a high-rise building near the Opatov metro station was approved by the municipality in 2018, and in the same year it announced a tender for a construction company. The originally estimated price of the reconstruction was 550 million crowns without taxes.
According to Zábranský’s original plan, he planned 323 smaller flats, which does not correspond to the city’s housing policy. The municipality thus had the project reworked into 275 flats, but the change would mean further complications. This, together with the higher price, led to the decision not to implement the plan. The councilor further stated that the elaboration of the newly rejected project cost Prague tens of millions of crowns.
Now the councilor wants to have a feasibility study prepared, on the basis of which the management of the metropolis will decide on the future of more than twenty-storey buildings. According to the councilor, it is technically unfortunate and one of the possible options is to demolish it. In such a case, the city could build a smaller apartment building on the plot. According to the councilor, the study could be completed in a few months.
At the last meeting of the council, representatives of the YES movement from the management of Prague 11 criticized in connection with the Opatov hotel. For example, the deputy mayor Ondřej Prokop stated that he does not understand why the municipality .
According to the original plan, the House had a new beginning, as the reconstruction project was called, providing accommodation for people with regular but low incomes. Prague also wanted to offer apartments there to young families with children, people with reduced mobility and seniors.
The adjacent former hostel Sandra is to serve similar services, which Prague 11 is reconstructing for an estimated price of half a billion crowns. The project has long criticized the opposition Movement for Prague 11, according to whose representatives it is overpriced.
