Na Poříčí Street: Prague 1 plans modifications in its entire length
“A complete project documentation for the construction procedure is being prepared and it is expected that that a building permit could be obtained this year so that we can start implementation next yearThe mayor said. The TaK Architects studio is working on the project under the direction of architect Marek Tichý. “I believe that the deadline for carrying out the work next year is not unrealistic,” said the architect.
Tichý further stated that the main problem of the street is the loss of authenticity. “It’s more of a place one has to go through than one that wants to visit.” he said. He added that Na Poříčí is historically one of the most important city axes, which corresponds to the architecturally valuable buildings. There are, for example, the Archa and YMCA palaces from the 1920s or the Bílá Labuť department store from the late 1930s.
“Today, this show of architecture is somewhat dusty with deposits of unconceptual modifications and purposeful changes, which have essentially erased the city’s ground floor,” Tichý added. According to him, the architects used the design to restore the ground floor and increase safety and comfort for pedestrians. “In this respect, it is essential to calm traffic, improve and expand residential areas, add urban furniture, improve the quality of lighting and then a completely new concept of greenery and water management.“He said.
According to Hejma, the costs of modifications are not yet clear. “The moment we get a building permit, we will know the final start,” he said. Tichý added that the costs will also depend on the obstacles that appear in the construction procedure and how extensive the requirements of the authorities and technical and communication infrastructure managers concerned will be.
The Revolutionary will also be adjusted
In addition, the main one is preparing to renovate another street that connects to Republic Square. In the future, the tram stop in Revoluční is to be moved, sidewalks widened and a new square will be created.
Hejma further said that the city district is still counting on the previously criticized construction on the plot adjacent to Lannova Park at the end of the street at Štefánik Bridge. “We certainly expect to provoke a discussion about what should be there. And I would like us to finally be able to organize an international architectural competition, because there should be a real landmark with public functions, “said the mayor. However, in September 2019, the Prague deputies stopped making changes to the zoning plan, which would be necessary for the construction.
