Electric e-bikes went to Prague. The city opened a cyclodepo
“In the cyclodep in Florence near Těšnov, the packages will be transferred from trucks to special e-bikes and the couriers will then deliver them directly to customers. We planned everything so that we could catch up this Christmas. The location is easily accessible by road, it is hidden under the main road, it has a large capacity and a great connection directly to the city center. The experience from abroad speaks for itself. As many as 32 percent of shipments can be transported by carcollege in the city center. And that’s not enough. Efficient logistics is the basis of a healthy city and when it works in the world, it can also work in Prague. It is a step in the right direction to reduce the number of cars in the city center and the healthier air we breathe in Prague,“Said Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Mayor for Transport
Based on a transport study, the Institute of Planning and Development of the Capital City of Prague m of Prague was decided in June this year by the City Council. m of Prague on the implementation of this project. Thanks to the fast interconnection and intensive cooperation between the city and logistics companies, the project was completed in just three months. “The development of the city is also related to its supply. The use of freight e-bikes instead of replacement will help the center of Prague not only in terms of lightening traffic or better use of space for pedestrians, but especially reducing the number of emissions and noise. By opening the first cyclodepa we go opposite a healthier city,“Said Petr Hlaváček, First Deputy Mayor.
A space in Těšnov near the Florenc metro station on the border of Prague 8 and Prague 1 was chosen for the location of the logistics depot. Until September this year, this place functioned as a private car park. It is not only its location on the edge of the city center, but it is also protected by a highway bridge against bad weather, and at the same time it is easily accessible in terms of supplying the outskirts of the city via the highway.
The pilot operation is planned for 6 to 8 months and will be evaluated regularly. The project will be attended by logistics and delivery companies Dachser, DHL Express, DPD, GLS, Messenger, PPL and Rohlik.cz. They will jointly operate a fleet of more than 30 truck e-bikes of various types and technologies. Depot.Bike functions as a transhipment point for consignments from deliveries, which transports them from the warehouses of companies on the outskirts of the city to the storage container of a specific logistics company in the depot. From there, the courier picks them up, carries out the e-bike accounting area and then transports them to the recipients in the center quickly and with zero emissions. Couriers can deliver up to 80 shipments from this depot in one day.
“The pilot project of the Prague Cyclodep takes us one step further to the standards of European cities. I believe that this method of low-emission logistics will help not only the city center, but also its inhabitants. I am looking forward to the evaluation next year and I hope that others in other parts of Prague will be added to the Těšnov depot,“Adds Ondřej Boháč, director of IPR Prague. If the operation is evaluated positively by logistics companies and the municipality, the city management is ready to consider the introduction of regulation of the entry of trucks into the center of Prague. The depot space will also serve as an electric car as a presentation of new technologies in the light. In the spring of 2021, it is planned to expand the depot with the so-called Logistics Hub, when it will be possible to hand over the shipment to the transport company in person or pick it up. The organization and operation of the Cargo depot is provided by a Czech specialist in e-bikes – ekolo.cz, in cooperation with the Technical Administration of Roads of the Capital City of Prague. “Electric e-bikes are another ‘big thing’ in the development of urban transport. AGAINST ekolo.cz I believe that thanks to the operation of the Depot, bicycle goods will become a regular part of our city. And that it will finally be normal for the inhabitants to travel, whether on a conventional or freight e-bike,”Summarizes Jakub Ditrich, project manager at the company ekolo.cz.
