The end of New Year’s Wars with firecrackers in the center. Prague will ban the use of pyrotechnics
The Prague City Council will ban the use of pyrotechnics on New Year’s Eve and New Year in selected places. It will not be possible in the monument reserve, nature parks and protected areas, around watercourses and on islands, dams and dikes, in the vicinity of the Troja Zoo and in homes for the elderly and other residential social facilities. This follows from the draft decree, which was approved by the Prague councilor today. If the decree is also approved by the deputies, it will apply from 1 December.
The city has so far regulated the organization of fireworks. The current ban thus applies to pyrotechnics that will be bought and detonated by the inhabitants of the city. People will not be able to fire rockets or cannons in the monument reserve or within a radius of less than 250 meters from homes for the elderly or disabled and other inpatient facilities.
Fireworks are banned in the vicinity of the Vltava River and will now be extended to pyrotechnics, in the vicinity of all watercourses, including islands, within a distance of 50 meters. The same rule will apply to dams, dikes, reservoirs or weirs and so-called reservoirs. The ban also provides for the protection of specially protected areas, nature parks. Also in this case, the minimum protective limit of 50 meters will apply.
It will not be possible to use pyrotechnics at a distance of up to 250 meters from the Troja Zoo, animal shelters and veterinary facilities.
For security reasons, the capital prohibits the use of products that cannot be controlled and can cause a fire. An example of this is the lanterns of fortune, which carry an open fire and fly uncontrollably.
Prague originally intended to ban pyrotechnics throughout the city. She eventually backed away. In the comment procedure, some town halls or the mayor’s office did not agree. According to the city police, it is also unrealistic to guard all cases and the entire territory.
During the night shift on the last New Year’s Eve night, rescuers in Prague recorded 255 cases of assistance, which is slightly less than in normal 24-hour operation and at the same time about 50 trips less than New Year’s Eve 2018. Police received about 1,000 notifications on the last day of the year line 158. Between midnight and 06:00 there were more than 300. Firefighters people called for 57 mostly smaller fires caused by fireworks.
