The rope bridge will continue to be called Y529-SDO-ČSD, Prague refused to rename it
The people of Prague have long called the cable car, but it is not officially called that. The municipal commission dealt with the renaming of the bridge last November. According to the document, it is mostly part of the Southern Link and renaming it would complicate the orientation situation.
“In an analogous solution to orientation situations, the commission does not support the proposal in a similar way,” the document states.
According to the document, the effort to name the most officially Lanový appeared in 2016, when the commission also rejected the new name. At that time, she justified this by disrupting the nomenclature system, when bridges over railways or roads are not named in Prague.
Last year, TSK organized a survey on its Facebook profile about the new name of the bridge. In it, 731 people voted for the name Lanový, which was 85 percent of respondents. In the same poll on the TSK twitter account, it was 87 percent of 231 voters.
TSK also offered the name Vršovický most. In addition to the mentioned variants, the voters had the opportunity to propose their name. Names like Zip, Column or Runner sounded. There was also a proposal to name it after the industrialist Vojtěch Lann.
The bridge was put into operation in 1997. In 2008, TSK employees discovered serious damage, mainly due to the fact that trucks over six tons were not allowed, after which it was closed for all traffic after a few days.
At that time, long columns were formed, the complication was mainly caused by freight transport, which uses the Southern Link instead of the unfinished part of the Prague Ring Road. It was also closed last year due to diagnostics.
