Prague wants to ban drinking in public. See where the ban is already in place and where it is going – ČT24 – Czech Television
“More and more often, they prefer streets, squares or parks as places of exuberant alcoholic festivities. All at the expense of the citizens of Prague 1 and the city district, “said Ivan Solil (ČSSD), Prague 1 councilor for security. Prague 1 therefore welcomes the form of the amendment.
On the contrary, the proposal is criticized by the Pirates and described as extremist. “Mayor Krnáčová apparently does not understand that the city center is not only here for rich tourists who spend in local restaurants and bars, but also for citizens who sometimes sit in the park or on the river with friends after work,” said MP and MP Jakub. Michálek (Pirates). Noise on the streets will not solve it, according to him, people who got drunk in restaurants. The pirates will not support the proposal in the council.
The decree banning drinking in selected public spaces came into force in 2008 and lists the places where the ban applies. It has since been amended, most recently in 2013, when the number of posts was doubled compared to the original text. Now there is a ban on almost 900 places throughout Prague.
The amendment to the decree was originally supposed to come into force in January this year, but is preparing to delay legislative difficulties related to the adoption of the so-called anti-smoking law, which also addresses the sale of alcohol on farmers’ markets. The current regulation includes a list of streets where people are not allowed to drink. This should change, at least in the case of the Prague Monument Reserve area, and the ban should apply there.
“We sent the draft decree for comment last week. It will take 30 days, ie until the end of November, “said spokesman Hofman. The proposal should ideally go to the council by the end of the year and go to the council next end of the year.
