Elections: Daniel Boeri and Brigitte Boccone-Pagès are our guests
This Sunday February 5, the Monegasques are called to the polls to renew the 24 members of the National Council. If voters have been deprived of televised debate, they do have the choice between two lists. On one side, the 14 challengers of New Ideas for Monaco. This list was able to be formed in extremis on the initiative of Daniel Boeri, dean of the national councillors. On the other, the 24 candidates of the Monegasque National Union, formed around the outgoing majority, and taken by Brigitte Boccone-Pagès . The two protagonists of this electoral campaign were our guests this week on Radio Monaco. Everyone answered questions from Nathalie Michet and Jean-Christophe Sanchez.
“Monaco must no longer stand still”
(Daniel Boeri)
A few days before the national election in Monaco, the two main candidates are preparing for the truth of the ballot box. Boss of the New Ideas for Monaco list (NIM), Daniel Boeri, dean of the national councillors, promises – in the event of victory – to launch debates on the major strategic questions for the future of the Principality. Under the motto ” Our future today“, the NIM list thus proposes to project itself in at least 10 years. In terms of the environment, for example, Daniel Boeri promises the creation of a “Green Budget”. According to him, the latter will have to assess the ecological impact of all the projects carried out in the Principality, including those of the State.
On the subject of employment, NIM calls for discussing a reduction in working time to four days a week. In terms of equality between men and women, the 14 candidates on the list felt that it was high time to discuss the legalization of abortion. Although decriminalized since 2019, on the initiative of the National Councillors, abortion remains prohibited in Monaco. While respecting the status of Catholicism as a state religion, Daniel Boeri believes that there should no longer be any taboo on the subject.
In this interview, we also address issues relating to education, housing and negotiations with the European Union for an association agreement.
“Our program is that of the Monegasques”
(Brigitte Boccone-Pages)
In the camp of the outgoing majority, Brigitte Boccone-Pagès, 63, takes the list of the Monegasque National Union (A M). After succeeding Stéphane Valéri last fall, the current president of the National Council promises continuity. At the heart of the program: the preservation and strengthening of the national priority in all areas. Regarding the ecological and energy transition, the UNM considers that the princely government lacks an overall strategic vision. To suffer from it, Brigitte Boccone-Pagès pleads for the establishment of a transversal structure within the administration. In terms of housing, according to her, a state agency will be needed. For transport: an emergency plan.
In general, our guest singles out the princely government on several occasions and believes that the role of the assembly should be strengthened. For example, she recommends setting up a monitoring committee that allows elected officials to have control over the legislative agenda. In addition, to deal with the “opacity” of negotiations with the European Union, Brigitte Boccone-Pagès calls for the involvement of national advisers through the establishment of a joint committee.
If she supports the continuation of the project in favor of equality between men and women, Brigitte Boccone-Pagès, on the other hand, is cautious about certain social issues. Unlike his opponents from NIM, the majority candidate believes that it would not be relevant to open a debate on the legalization of VG. “We can’t do just anything,” explains the outgoing president of CN. According to her, it is a question of respecting the Monegasque context“, namely the state status of the Catholic religion in the Principality.
