Wissam Ben Yedder, the numbers of a Legend scorer!

Sugar Mizzy February 2, 2023

By scoring his 90th but in the colors of AS Monaco, to lead his teammates to success against Auxerre at the Stade Louis-II (3-2), the captain of the Red and Whites became the only 3rd best scorer in the Club history. Back in figures on its performance, with our partner Opta.

The superlatives are starting to (seriously) run out! week after week, Wissam Ben Yedder leaves a slightly larger trace in the long and glorious history of AS Monaco. Author of his 150th match in all competitions with the Diagonale on his shoulders against Olympique de Marseille (1-1), the red and white number 10 added an additional line to his legend this Wednesday in front of Auxerre.

Youssouf – Wissam, the winning combo

Indeed, by opening the scoring against the Burgundians on a superb serve from Youssouf Fofana – author of his 10th decisive pass in the Principality, the 4th for his captain, notes Opta -, the former Toulouse player did not only lead his partners to victory (3-2). He was also not content to add a 12th but this season in Ligue 1 (the 17th TCC) to his counter. No, Captain’ Wiss has also decided to enter the pantheon of AS Monaco a little more.

A perfect finish for a 90th but in Red & White 🥉

Alone on the third step of the podium!

Because after having equaled the mark of another Riviera legend, Christian Dalger (89 but), thanks to his triple slap against Ajaccio (his 6th in the top flight), Wissam has now passed him with this left-footed cross shot against AJA. Thus becoming the only third best scorer in the history of the Club, behind the great Lucien Cossou (115) and Delio Onnis (223)! A performance all the more remarkable, as he was already the 3rd best scorer in Ligue 1 (75 goals), still behind these two monsters (97 for Cossou, 157 for Onnis).

Second top scorer in L1 in the 21st century

So much so that since his arrival at the foot of the Rock in the summer of 2019, alone Kylian Mbappe (136 with Paris) has scored more goals in all competitions than the French international striker (90), with the same French club. By shaking the net for the 138th time in the French championship against Auxerre (63 with Toulouse, 75 with Monaco), Wissam Ben Yedder finally joined Edinson Cavani as the second top scorer in the top flight in the 21st century (behind Kylian Mbappé currently at 148).

It is a pride, an honor, a great joy to be in this place today. Whether for me personally or for the Club. To be alongside a player like Radamel Falcao in particular, who is a Legend here, is very good. But I hope I’m not going to stop there (smile).

An inspiration named: Radamel Falcao

But as he has never broken records, the latter is also close to becoming the player who has renewed the most matches as captain with AS Monaco in Ligue 1 since his comeback in 2013-2014. Currently it is tied with Radamel Falcao and his 76 caps on the clock, after Wednesday’s success at the Stade Louis-II. A sacred monster therefore, which obviously has not finished stretching its legend with the eight-time champion of France. So bravo capi! 👏 🇲🇨
