Construction of another tram line has begun in Prague. The section to Slivenc will be completed this year
By building a loop, the need to deploy two-way trams will be eliminated.
Further expansion of the tram network began today in Prague. The half-kilometer-long section from Holyně to Slivenka will follow the section opened last year from Sídliště Barrandov. The trams should leave for the new line at the end of October this year.
Strabag Rail won the contract for 233 million crowns. The price in the competition fell by 37% against the estimate in the project. There was a lot of interest in the building, DPP received ten offers.
The new section is approximately 500 meters long and will end with a loop with a total length of approximately 600 meters. One pair of stops will be created directly at the turnpike. From the current Holyně headland, it will continue towards the intersection of U Náhonu and K Barrandovu streets. The front turns in an arc towards U Náhonu street, which it crosses at an almost 90° angle, then it will continue in a westerly direction along K Barrandovu street, and after about 250 meters the loop will end. The Slivenec interchange will be single-track with two tracks, with a capacity for up to ten articulated trams with a length of min. 30 meters.
In the area of the Prague interchange, P+R plans to build a parking lot. From the turnpike towards the underpass under K Barrandovu Street, the DPP will build a sidewalk that will connect on the other side of the street to the already built road for pedestrians and cyclists leading to the development in the center of Slivenc.
A new urban district for 8,000 people will grow in the vicinity of the new line. At the moment they move in, however, they will already have a tram that will reach the city center comfortably. The tram line will form the backbone of public transport services in this area. A new sidewalk, including public lighting, was created this year in Slivenc from the home for the elderly in Ke Smíchovu Street to the underpass under K Barrandovu Street, near which the future tram loop will be located. Thanks to the Slivenec loop, all types of trams, not only bidirectional KT8N2, will be able to use this line.
