Paris, Rennes and Monaco are doing the job, Lens and Lyon are stalling – foot11.com
After a first multiplex at 7 p.m., with in particular the victories of OM and Reims against Nantes (0-2) and Lorient (4-2), the 21st day of L1 continued in the evening. On the program, another multiplex installed on the grill on PSG, Lyon, Lens and Rennes respectively face Montpellier, Brest, Nice and Strasbourg. Matches which partly concerned the top of the classification. And after OM’s victory, the pressure was particularly evident on the Parisians and the Lensois, which made it possible to return to winning ways to launch a new dynamic.
PSG wins, Mbappé gets injured
Held in check by Reims on Sunday (1-1), PSG is having a complicated start to the year 2023. The transfer window scenario did not help but it is on the ground that the Parisians must respond. Faced with a very sluggish Montpellier team for weeks, the capital club missed the opportunity to open the scoring in the first period. Mbappe stumbled on Lecomte from the penalty spot before sending the ball over the cages (10th). Ten minutes later, the French striker came out injured and gave way to Ekitike (21st). Messi, he found the net but was flagged offside (35th).
After the break, the referee again refused but from Hakimi (52nd). But Montpellier then cracked on an outside foot from Fabian Ruiz, this time validated (55th)! PSG dominated the rest of the match and Messi scored the KO goal on a caviar from Ruiz (72nd). For its part, Montpellier did not give up and still managed to reduce the mark at the end of the match (89th), before seeing Zaire-Emery reduce Hérault hopes to nothing (90th + 2). Thanks to this success, the Parisians regain a lead in the standings with 5 points more than OM, their new runner-up. For Montpellier, nothing changes with a 14th place.
Lens ends up falling, Rennes wanders
After OM’s victory, the RC lens lost its second place in the L1 standings. Victory was therefore compulsory against Nice for the Sang et Or. But the Aiglons, on the strength of their success against LOSC, managed to win at the Bollaert stadium (0-1). It only took one goal from Laborde, him again, to see the Gym take the three points in the North. Lens (3rd) therefore loses a place in the standings, while Nice (8th) returns to 4 lengths from Lorient (7th).
Beaten by Lorient in the derby last weekend, Rennes had an opportunity to recover at home. And the Bretons did the job since they quietly won against Strasbourg (3-0). Gouiri launched the Rouge et Noir at the very start of the match (3rd) before offering himself a double (21st). Doué worsened the score after the break and offered this victory to the Bretons for good. In the standings, Rennes retains its 5th place just behind Monaco (4th). As for Strasbourg, the second part of the season promises to be complicated. The Alsatians are not doing well and remain in the red zone (18th).
Monaco trembles but continues
In a good dynamic with 5 wins and 3 draws in their last 8 L1 matches, AS Monaco confirmed against Auxerre (3-2). The Monegasques made the difference in the first period thanks to Ben Yedder (11th) and Ben Seghir (30th), against the overwhelmed Auxerrois. Abline revived the suspense after the hour mark (68′) but Embolo gave ASM a two-goal lead (82′). A last but from Auxerre did not prevent the Monegasques from taking three points and consolidating their 4th place. AJA, which has not won in L1 since October, remains at the bottom of the ranking (19th).
Definitely, Lyon can’t do it…
With only one victory since the start of the year, OL are off to a bad start in their move up the rankings. The Lyonnais remained on a victory against Ajaccio (0-2) but fell back in their crossings. Yet largely dominant, Laurent Blanc’s men did not find the fault against a well-organized Brest team (0-0). The situation remains complicated for Les Gones, stuck in the middle of the standings (10th). For Brest, this is a good point taken outside, especially since it allows the Bretons to grab a place (15th).
