Třinec defeated Vítkovice in the derby, Řepík helped Sparta turn around with a hat trick
With a hard-fought victory, the Třinec hockey players stopped a series of failures and, on the contrary, deepened the domestic misery of the Vítkovice hockey players, who fell on their own ice for the fifth time in the last six games. The regional rivals met in the regular season for the fourth time, and this time the visiting team was also happy with the win.
On the contrary, this statistic did not stretch in Sparta’s match against Karlovy Vary. In the third game between the two rivals, the home team was happy for the first time in every other game. While the third Sparta and the fourth Třinec slightly approached the top of the table, Karlovy Vary missed the chance to jump to ninth place.

The opening of the fourth Moravian-Silesian derby of the season belonged to Třinac, despite a great chance by Petr Fridrich from Vítkovice shortly after the opening goal. While the home striker did not use his breakthrough for the defense, Andrej Nestrašil made no mistake in the power play and sent the Steelers into the lead in the sixth minute of the match.
The Ostravas didn’t let the conceded goal decide, perhaps the fight between Marko Kalus and Daniel Voženílek spurred them on, and they looked more dangerous until the first break. However, the key to the shooting success was the power plays – the home team did not use theirs before the first break, the guests took their chances at the beginning of the second period to excellent effect.
The Steelers have not used the double numerical value yet, mainly because of Lukáš Klimeš’s excellent catch against Tomáš Marcinek. And technically speaking, they didn’t even have time to use the subsequent classic power play. At the end of it, however, they played a quick combination, which was finished by Martin Růžička into the upper corner of the goal. A single second has passed since Rastislav Děje’s sentence expired.
Five minutes before the second siren, Willie Raskob made a power play just before the blue line and beat goalkeeper Marko Mazanc for the first and last time in the game. Vítkovic continued to chase an equaliser, and with their pressure they graduated in the third period, when they outplayed Ocelář and significantly outshot them. However, they did not reach the top bar that was stamped more than once.
Thanks to the narrow victory, Třinečtí stopped the series of losses, which grew to five games, and defeated the regional rival for the second time. On the contrary, the Vítkovice hockey players ended an unsuccessful January at their home ice rink with another loss in front of their own fans.
Miloš Holan (Vítkovice): “An excellent match with playoff parameters. We worked until the last minute. Třinec almost didn’t get out of its zone in the third period. We played aggressively, well… But the goals decided, we scored only one. I don’t feel like I can fault the players today. Třinec did everything for success, he had a lot of blocked shots.
Zdeněk Moták (Třinec): “We needed such a victory. Struck, fought. The home side’s tremendous strength was evident in the attacking phase. In the third period, they clamped down on us, but Mazanec intercepted us very well. Thanks to all players. It is the first step towards some return to good and quality results. I think that the quality character of all the players was also shown today.”

Sparta vs Karlovy Vary 6:3 |
Karlovy Vary better managed the first match. The home team’s Michal Řepík responded to Martin Kohout’s shot from the beginning of the third minute with a hard blow to the post, but the Praguers failed to solve other interesting opportunities, and so the visitors jumped to a two-goal lead after the break.
First, Jan Hladonik was left free in front of the right post, thanks to which he sent the puck into the net through the stretching Jakub Kovář, four and a half minutes later, Kohout finished off Tomáš Redlich.
Karlovy Vary’s third goal was preceded by a mistake by Stefan Warg on the blue line, and in an attempt to save the Swedish defender’s situation, he made another mistake right after. But the signaled penalty did not happen. Overall, it was not a good premiere for Sparta’s reinforcements, as shortly afterwards Warg unfortunately injured his legs and did not finish the duel.
The roasters were more active in the shooting from the second half, and in the third they significantly extended their superiority to the score. Even before the break, David Tomášek reduced the score to one goal, and in the 46th minute he was followed up by Jan Buchtele, who directed a flying puck over the line just in front of the goal area and equalized.
In the following minutes, the captain of Sparta Řepík took it upon himself. The experienced striker completed the hat-trick with a stop first and then a hard shot from the top of the right throw-in circle and pulled the score to the home side. David Němeček scored the second win of Prague over Energií with a minute and a half to go.
