Pepa Bílek started publishing the first cartoon forums in 1991. Among other things, he also published several books of erotic cartoon humor. He cooperates with humorous magazines in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He participated in many cartoon humor exhibitions. “This event in Prague is the biggest exhibition of my works so far, it presents 130 cartoon jokes. Sometimes at night I transform my dreams into a cartoon,” he said at the opening, which was attended by over 120 visitors, among them twenty people from Žatec. Antonín Svoboda has been taking photographs since he was twelve years old. His father Josef, who was also a well-known photographer, brought him to this hobby. The author’s diverse work is dominated by the beautiful curves of women’s bodies. His images combine feminine beauty with fine art, and his 22 large-format photographs complement this unconventional exhibition of cartoon jokes. Among them are also photos taken in the center of Žatec.

Ivan Mládek has been known as the frontman of the Banjo Band since 1966, and since the 1960s he has been involved in painting and cartoon humor. He paints oils in his original “anti-perspective” style and exhibits 7 paintings and anti-perspective posters together with Žatečany. The impressive presentation of the city was also appreciated by the deputy mayor of Žatec, Jaroslava Veselá, who thanked the Žatec artists at the opening and gave everyone small gifts. There is a lot of interest in this laugh-out-loud exhibition in Prague, as confirmed by gallery curator Petr Pavel Šimáček: “Pepa Bílek and photographer Antonín Svoboda have come to entertain Prague in today’s gloomy times. And with great success! On the very first day after the opening, another 80 satisfied spectators visited the exhibition and really left with a smile”. Only thank you notes appear in the guest book. “Ivan Mládek and the two Žatec artists made me laugh!” wrote, for example, Jiří Leneček.
“I couldn’t read all the cartoon jokes on display in an hour, I’ll come again!” Nina Staňková from Prague – Vinohrad confided to the Žateck daily newspaper. This exhibition in “gallery pre” (Na Hroudě 4, Prague 10) will last until March 10, it is open on weekdays from 12 to 6 p.m. (pk)
