This year, the capital will spend 378.66 million crowns on cultural subsidies, which is ten million more protected. The greater part of the money is intended for multi-year grants. The city will distribute the most money between theaters and the least on literature. Former councilor Hana Třeštíková (Praha Sobě) told journalists today. The allocation of subsidies must still be approved by the Prague representatives. The office received 668 applications this year. Last year, the city gave 368.18 million crowns for cultural grants.
We managed to allocate the most money for this year. We are continuing the trend where the amount of money in subsidies is increasing. It can be seen that after 2020 we had a slight decrease caused by covid-19, but we have already returned to the trend where the volume of money (for cultural subsidies) is increasing,” said Třeštíková.
Of the total amount set aside for subsidies, a larger part is multi-year grants, to which 256.72 million crowns will go. The remaining 121.88 million will go to one-year grants, which is about five million less.
Applicants could apply for money in seven categories, namely theatre, music, dance, visual arts, literature, audiovisual and interdisciplinary projects plus genre festivals. As in previous years, the area where the most money will go is the theater. He will receive 39.86 percent of the total amount.
The allocation of money is decided by the municipal subsidy commission made up of experts, which proposes to allocate money only to those who reach the necessary point thresholds set in individual subsidy areas. The final distribution of money is approved by city councilors and representatives.
