Federal Constitutional Court files complaint against repeat election in Berlin
The Federal Constitutional Court will again make a variety of decisions on the legality of the repeat election in Berlin – but only after the February 12 election date. What that ultimately means for the election is still unclear.
The Federal Constitutional Court apparently needs more time to examine the repetition of the Berlin election. The rbb leads on Monday from parliamentary circles. In a letter to the House of Representatives, which is presented to rbb, the court sets a new deadline for comments on the repetition of the election of March 2nd.
What that means for the previous election date on February 12 is still unclear. Because there is nothing in the letter about the complainants’ urgent application against the appointment. The Federal Constitutional Court will comment in the course of the day.
For the complainants against the re-election, including several members of the Left, SPD and Greens in the Berlin House, this is a first success, because their complaint is accepted for trial.
In a 250-page brief, more than 40 people lodged a complaint against the repeat of the election. Among other things, they justify this by saying that the state constitutional court went too far with its decision. However, it is still unclear how the Federal Constitutional Court will decide in the end.
