Eliesse Ben Seghir in the footsteps of Kylian Mbappé? 3 things not to know about the nugget of Monaco
It is the new nugget of Monaco and probably tomorrow that of French football. Three things you don’t know about Eliesse Ben Seghir.
Author of a double after coming into play against Auxerre on December 28 on behalf of the sixteenth day of Ligue 1, the Monegasque nugget Eliesse Ben Seghir presents himself as one of the greatest hopes of French football. His thunderous start to his career in three unpublished pieces of information.
Phenomenon of precocity in Ligue 1 over the last 75 years
Coming into play at the 46th minute for his second career professional match – he played a short minute on November 3, 2022 against Red Star Belgrade, in the Europa League – Eliesse Ben Seghir scored more than twice, the history of the French championship and of his club, AS Monaco. By scoring twice against Auxerre for the Ligue 1 post-World Cup recovery, he became the second youngest player in the history of the club from the principality – behind a certain Thierry Henry – to score twice for the AS Monaco in Ligue 1, just 17 years and 315 days old.
Even stronger, this feat quite simply makes the young Franco-Moroccan the youngest player to score a double or more for his 1before appearance in Ligue 1 over the last 75 years. Phenomenon of precocity, we told you.
A family matter
If the name Ben Seghir is not unknown to you, it is surely because the young Monegasque is not the only member of his family to tread the lawns of Ligue 1. Of Moroccan origin, he is also the younger brother of Salim Ben Seghir (19), who has just been loaned for six months to Valenciennes (Ligue 2) by Olympique de Marseille, after playing a few minutes this season in Ligue 1 under the colors of Marseille, during the wide OM’s 6-1 victory against Toulouse last December. Unlike his younger brother, from the AS Monaco training center, Salim Ben Seghir was trained at OGC Nice, before joining OM in July 2021.
In the footsteps of Kylian Mbappé
Despite his dual Franco-Moroccan nationality, Eliesse Ben Seghir has so far always given priority to the blue jersey in his career with the various youth teams. Very promising for many years, he quickly caught the eye of the federation and thus had the opportunity to evolve in all age categories of the French team, first with the U-16 , the U-17s and finally the U-18s.
Almost 18 years old and having taken part in all the Ligue 1 matches since his life-saving entry into play against Auxerre last December (he started in AS Monaco’s last four matches in the league), he can now dream bigger and try to follow in the footsteps of Kylian Mbappé, who made his debut in blue on March 25, 2017 at just 18 years and 3 months old, while wearing the colors of ASM.
