Björk will play in Prague’s 02 Arena on September 16, 2023
“It makes sense that music that sounds like nothing else gets a live show that looks like nothing else,” they wrote of the Cornucopia concert tour in an American magazine review Vulture.
The concertgoer is said to have felt like a little caterpillar who found himself at a festival of forest fairies. Never-before-seen instruments were played and overgrown mushrooms decorated the stage. The singer was accompanied by a fifty-member choir from Iceland and a flute septet, the sound danced in the space thanks to the innovative sound design, which was dominated by a special echo chamber. And the critics rated the performance as the best, Björ created for her concert work.
Now Cornucopia returns – expanded by last year’s Fossora album. Björk that the tour was intended to include both thematically close albums, i.e. Utopia and Fossora. And if the first of them thematized breath and wind, the second goes underground – to the sophisticated networks of fungi. Mycelium, according to Björk, symbolizes hope, because it can transform everything dead into new energy. Fossora was created, among other things, as a eulogy for the singer’s mother, the environmental activist Hildur Rúna Hauksdóttir. It is one of her most experimental, but also most optimistic records, the sound of which combines clarinets, vocal choirs and elements of dance music.
“Even after three decades, Björk remains at the head of the pop avant-garde, which in a period obsessed with retro tries to make music that we’ve never heard before,” commented music columnist Karel Veselý on Fossora’s album.
Cornucopia features digital visuals created by media artist Tobias Gremmler, Andy Huang, Nick Knight, M/M, set design by Chiara Stephenson, flute septet Viibra, clarinetists, harpist, percussion, electronics and a range of bespoke instruments implemented in an innovative stage design including a custom reverb chamber.
