“Jorge’s work is deeply rooted in Mexican popular culture and folklore, but it’s also decidedly celebratory.“, a comment Marcel Jeanartistic director of the Annecy Festival. “The aesthetic it puts forward is generous, baroque, colorful, full of surprises… In this sense, it is in keeping with the very spirit of the Festival. This poster invites you to come party with us!“
“The poster is very inspired by all the spectacular night parties of our beloved festival“, Explain Gutierrez in a video. “A trajinera (typical Mexican boat from Xochimilco) arrives on Lake Annecy carrying many happy and excited Mexicans ready to party. The city itself radiates, it shines like a warm and magical place“.
This very colorful poster is reminiscent of the visual style of The Legend of Manolohis first animated feature film released in 2014 and produced by Guillermo del Toro. It also mixes all sorts of references to
Mexican culture, from Mayan mythology to Frida Kahlo and the figure of the luchador (Mexican wrestler), as seen in this image compiling his inspirations.
