An unmissable sporting event in Haute-Savoie, the lake annecy international marathon will return this year on April 15 and 16. A look back at a competition ranked in the top 5 marathons in France.

The Lake Annecy marathon, a key spring event

The International Marathon of annecy lake is certainly the sporting event not to be missed in the spring in the lakeside city. Created in 1980, it is organized by Annecy Haute-Savoie Athlétisme, the AHSA. Today, it is one of the top 5 French marathons, due to the performance of the athletes, but also because of the setting in which it takes place.

Since its creation, more than 200,000 participants have started the marathonAnnecy. 500 volunteers also meet each year to ensure the smooth running of the event.

The 2023 edition

The edition of the international marathon of Lake Annecy will therefore take place this year on April 15 and 16. Registration is already open and, at the beginning of February, 6,000 participants are registered. The start of the races will be from the Paquier. As every year, several competitions will take place, with spaced out starts.

Note that for the Nordic Walk, the meeting is given at 8:30 a.m. at Le Pâquier, for a boat departure at 9:30 a.m. If you wish to know your departure SAS, the organization recommends that you go to the page internet of your event.

Accommodation for the marathon

Runners, guides or volunteers, you may need to find accommodation in Annecy. We will therefore teach you how to discover some accommodation located near Le Pâquier, the starting point of the marathon.

The Hotel des Alpes is located at 12 rue de la Poste. In 10 minutes, you will be at the edge of Lake Annecy. The train station is 100 meters from the property.

Le Pélican is a 4-star hotel with a particularly good location. From 20 rue des Marquisats, you can reach Le Pâquier in 5 minutes. You will be able to take advantage of the swimming pool at the end of the marathon to undertake your recovery.

Les Muses is a hotel by the lake, on the border between Annecy and Annecy-le-Vieux, at 61 rue Centrale. The location is therefore ideal and you will be able to get to the start of the marathon without having to take your car back.

At 33 avenue du Petit Port, you will find the Rivage Hotel & Spa. This 4-star establishment will allow you to easily reach Le Pâquier on foot. You can also enjoy the spa and its wellness center after the competition.

Practical information

The course is currently being validated by the French Athletics Federation. It should nevertheless take place on the western shore of the lake. The runners will therefore have the opportunity to cross emblematic sites of Annecy, such as Le Pâquier, or the Marais de l’Enfer de Saint-Jorioz. The withdrawal of bibs will be done on the Pâquier:

  • April 14 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • April 15 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • April 16 from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.

An identity document and an acknowledgment of registration will then be requested.

Settlement update

To be able to take the start of the international marathon of Lake Annecy, certain points must be respected. Athletics license in competition, classic license or medical certificate must be presented during registration. Minors, on the other hand, must have parental consent.

Garbage cans will be set up along the route, so that runners can throw away their waste. The participants’ bib must remain visible throughout the race. Its loss is considered eliminatory.

Note that the youth race is free. The bibs will also be interchangeable, refunding the payment of the sum of 5€. In addition, extras will be offered: a pasta party the night before for the single price of 15€. On Saturday April 16 and Monday April 18, it will also be possible to visit the city of Annecy and taste local productsrewards the sum of 25€ per person.
