Linden South. Although the colorfully painted facades and some renovations tend to hide it, there is a monument from another century on Charlottenstraße. This semi-detached house with the house numbers 23 and 25 is an example of the typical development in Linden-Süd according to the topography of the monument. These residential buildings show “small-town format”, of which the remains that still remain today document “the modest and hesitant beginnings of the Linden settlement”.

Semi-detached house at Charlottenstraße 23/25 from the 19th century
While Charlottenstrasse and the first building were built in the middle of the 19th century, further development continued until 1890. These were mainly two-storey plastered buildings. The houses for the craftsmen and skilled workers were built in Linden. While the residential building at Charlottenstraße 25 has only three window axes, the monument at number 23 has five.

Both houses are finished with gable roofs, whereby the roof of number 25 was extended with penthouses. According to the preservationists, the building is accessed “via a staircase in the front in the middle”. In addition, the façade structure is limited to emphasizing the basement base, the sills and the eaves cornice.

Due to a comprehensive redevelopment of the district, the residential buildings with the outbuildings in the courtyard area, which are lined up in a row with Bauwich, sometimes look different today – but (mostly) their historical character was retained, as with the semi-detached residential building at Charlottenstraße 23/25.
