For the final direct election of the president, Prague was whipped more than its surroundings
Voters in the capital were more likely to vote in the final election of the President of the Republic than people in the Central Bohemian area. The proportion of people who came in the second round of the election in the capital was almost the highest in the entire republic – but the counting of votes on Saturday, January 28 showed that Vysočina offered even slightly “better” numbers. After all, record interest can also be recorded nationwide – with the highest participation in history.

In the second round, it reached a total of 70.25 percent, while in the first round it was 68.24 percent. It was thus confirmed that the people consider the direct election of the president to be their own and were interested in exercising their will. Across the board.
The capital city of Prague rose to 73.17 percent in the second round, while 70.95 percent of citizens with the right to vote appeared in the first round. The increase thus reached 2.22 percentage points. Despite the fact that many residents went to the mountains – or even to cottages; so they voted away from home.
Decided: Prague voted for General Petr Pavel in both rounds of the presidential election
In the first round, Central Bohemia surpassed the metropolis, when voter turnout here reached 71.40 percent. However, the increase in participation in the second round was no longer so significant – with an increase of 1.38 percentage points compared to the first round, it was 72.78 percent.
It was also confirmed again that within Central Bohemia, the most diligent voters are in the vicinity of the metropolis: in Prague-East (with a current turnout of 77.47 percent, which is 1.55 percentage points more than in the first round) and in Prague-West (now 77.34 percent came, 1.25 percentage points more than two weeks ago); on the contrary, Kladno appears to be the most passive in a relative comparison. Even there, however, 68.19 percent of voters went to the polls in the second round (two weeks ago it was 1.27 percentage points less).

Even though the members of the election commissions in some places continuously estimated during the voting that the turnout of voters was not significantly different compared to the first election round, somewhere the great interest in voting was confirmed even before the opening of the room by queues forming in front of the door. Especially in larger cities, where in one school they had several polling stations in individual classes for precincts, some of the arrivals also found out exactly where they should go. This revealed that they had arrived for the first time and did not cast their vote in the first round – voting was held in the same rooms as 14 days ago.
