The Thessaloniki of… Google, the garbage produced by every citizen and the door of the municipal council house
Good morning!
In… red since yesterday Parliamentwith the submission of a motion of no confidence by SYRIZA against the government, which will culminate tomorrow Friday with the speeches of the political leaders and the vote. Some things, however, are clear: First, the government will not fall. Secondly, SYRIZA is betting a lot on the really dirty case of wiretapping, both the EYP, the government’s charges, and the illegal ones, which it tries to charge to… the government. Thirdly, Mr. Tsipras brings back with intensity the issue of Democracy in our country, which is certainly not in danger, but it certainly needs qualitative improvement and improvement. We don’t need strange surveillance, nor referendums – cartoons, with the dilemma in English and a complete reversal of the result, i.e. the will of the citizens, in less than 24 hours, nor blind and for party benefit adoption of supporting complaints against the country, by people – ghosts . . Because in this country, when what we need is seriousness and coolness, we fanatically pursue a national sport of playing with words. Because in the country that gave birth to philosophy, poetry, tragedy, in the country of the two Nobel Prizes for literature and the other two that were lost for political reasons, we have forgotten that the reason that has no response, that is not connected to actions, is… an empty shirt . . As the unforgettable Manolis Rasoulis wrote, having in mind the Greece he loved and the Greeks of whom he was proud, “you look in the mirror / and you are loved by yourself”.
Thessaloniki through the lens of Google
The… extroversion of Thessaloniki moved to satisfactory levels in 2022, something that continues in the first weeks of 2023. demand in relation to both 2019, a record year for Greek tourism, and 2021, based on the searches for accommodation that made by travelers on Google. The other six are Athens, Thessaloniki, Corfu, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes and Naxos. Last October was recorded as the “strongest” month in terms of demand for Thessaloniki, with the period May – December maintaining the volume of searches at a higher level than the rest of the year. The leading countries in terms of searches for accommodation in Thessaloniki for 2022 were Germany and Cyprus, followed by the United Kingdom, Israel and Romania. Serbia, the USA, Italy, Bulgaria and France completed the top ten, while the USA, Germany and Italy had the largest percentage change for 2022 compared to 2019.
How much garbage do the people of Thessaloniki produce every day and…
The problem of waste collection in Thessaloniki is known and remains serious, despite the honorable efforts of the vice-mayor’s responsibilities at times, which also applies to the current one. This is a problem that goes beyond organizational weaknesses and objective data, as in the municipality of Thessaloniki 450 – 500 tons of garbage are produced daily, 350 – 380 tons in the green bins and another 100 – 120 tons in the blue bins. Given the population, but also the traffic of the municipality of Thessaloniki – a significant percentage of residents of other municipalities of the urban complex pass through the central municipality every day – the production of waste is somewhere between 500 and 700 grams per person per day. You don’t even say it.
… the chunky ones partying on the sidewalks, and…
Serious problem for the cleanliness of Thessaloniki and the bulky ones. You know, the furniture and small furniture, the mattresses, the sanitary items, but also the rubbish that citizens take down on the sidewalks without caring about their fate. Despite the fact that according to the legislation there are procedures for the removal of these bulky wastes, in which they are directly involved to whom they belong. In 2022, the municipality of Thessaloniki collected 7.50 tons of such abandoned objects, a size clearly smaller than the 10,500 tons of 2020. The municipality, which will be immediately reinforced with two members of the municipal police.
… the forgotten electricity bill that cost exactly
As, in fact, Mr. Iacovou revealed speaking to 102 FM of ERT-3, there are at least two members of the Municipal Council, who were recently “arrested” to align themselves on massive issues, were identified by the municipality’s service and forced to make amends. One, in fact, was “arrested” to have deposited next to the bins, the front door of the apartment building he lives in and the tenants decided to change to a newer and safer one. In order to convince, in fact, that the Eutaxia Group also functions as a “bulky police”, which has “bulky detectives”, he emphasized that last year hundreds of calls were made to citizens who left bulky objects on the sidewalk. In one case – according to the deputy mayor – someone who had left small furniture for disposal just below his house in eastern Thessaloniki it was found by a forgotten electricity bill in some drawer of a nightstand from the ones he had thrown away!
