The contract for the assignment of the studies that examine the reconstruction of Aristotleof the square and its monumental axis Thessalonikiand proceed as a continuation of the international architectural competition, the mayor signed today, Konstantinos Zervas.
“Today I feel both happy and proud, because this emblematic project that we announced in 2019 is entering the implementation phase. One of the most recognizable, one of the most beautiful parts of our city is finally getting a fresher image. Thessaloniki is revolutionizing its most central point, so that now the image of a European, a Mediterranean metropolis is a reality. Beyond the best quality of life it offers to its citizens, Thessaloniki will offer an excellent image to its visitors. The reconstruction of Aristotle is the most important a ticket to the new era in Thessaloniki that we dream of, in the Thessaloniki that all Thessalonians envision”emphasized Mr. Zervas.
The preparation of the studies was undertaken by the team that unanimously won the first prize of the jury of the architectural competition announced by the municipality of Thessaloniki (Ariadne Bozani: engineer architect, NTUA professor, Paraskevi Fanou: NTUA PhD candidate).
“We will do our best to have a study that will give us a project that is being done, looking to the future of the city and highlighting the historical identity of both the axis and Aristotelous Square. We hope that the study will be experienced warmly by Thessaloniki”, said Mrs. Bozani in her relevant statement.
The redevelopment projects will develop into an area of 32,500 sq.m. and the square and the Aristotelous axis from the beach front to Egnatia Street. The study area also includes the sidewalks on Niki Avenue on both sides of the axis up to Plutarchou and Demosthenous streets, as they are an integral part of the overall image of the axis from the sea front.
The emblematic architecture of Aristotle is an element of international recognition of Thessaloniki. The new design that will result should strengthen the role of the area as a strong landmark but also highlight its special historical and functional identity.
