Showmen worried about possible relocation of the Dippemess
Showmen and women fear a drop in sales if the Dippemess fairground on Ratsweg in Frankfurt has to move due to the construction of the European School.
Frankfurt – When the Dippemess opens at the Ratsweg festival square at the end of March, it will certainly not be the last time. However, it is unclear how many years this square will continue to be a fairground since a new building for the European School on Ratsweg in Frankfurt is being discussed. And about a move of the festivals to the exhibition center on the Rebstock.
“The situation is stressful for us,” said Peter Roie, representative of the showmen’s association, on Monday in the education committee. It would be desirable to stay on the site, “but if it’s not possible, then we should find a solution together”. The showmen and women “don’t want to resist the development of the city,” Roie said. But there may be concerns about moving. In Freiburg, for example, you saw how the festivals were moved out of the city center.
The Dippemess in Frankfurt has three to four million visitors every year
“The sales volume of before was not reached again,” said Roie. And next to the Christmas market, the Dippemess is particularly important for the showmen. Three to four million visitors come every year with purchasing power of 25 euros per person, “the economic factor should not be underestimated either”. It would therefore be good if we talked to each other and there was a “win-win situation”, according to Roie. die too Local residents angry about the city’s plans.
Nobody in the committee disagrees. “We can’t just talk about school,” said Julia Frank (Greens). At the same time, options for the showmen would have to be examined. Only when it is a working alternative for them can the school be planned. For Sylvia Kunze (SPD), too, it is “important to think carefully about all the parts together”. If the fairground moves to a trade fair car park, then the problems of the trade fair would also have to be solved there. The situation is difficult for the showmen, “but unfortunately that cannot be discussed in four weeks,” she said.
For Michael Müller (left), the question would first have to be answered as to whether the fairground can move to the fair. Or whether an alternative is necessary. “The showmen and women need planning security.” Thinking together, Sylvia Weber (SPD), head of the education department, is also in favor of this.
Working group to decide on the future of Dippemess in Frankfurt
A working group made up of representatives of the magistrate and the offices has just been decided and will probably meet for the first time. They should clarify all the many questions that are open. Can the school building do without the allotment gardens on Ratsweg? There must be a traffic concept, the development plan must be set in motion. And the alternative area for the fairground will be checked. “But we need some time for that,” said Weber. The working group should make an appointment with the showmen as soon as possible in order to advance something together. (Sandra Busch)
