ZSC beats Kloten. 152 seconds make the difference in the Zurich derby.
The third Zurich derby this season in the National League also ended with a victory for the home team. The ZSC Lions beat EHC Kloten 3:1 thanks to a triplet in the middle of the game.
For a long time, the 12,000 spectators in the sold-out arena in Zurich-Altstetten were only offered lean food before ZSC made a preliminary decision with three goals between the 30th and 32nd minute. For the guests from Kloten it was a fatal 152 seconds.
First Lucas Wallmark scored the lead, but because the Kloteners complained that Denis Hollenstein was obstructing the goalie when the Swedish top scorer hit, the delicate scene was set up in the video study. Unsuccessful for Kloten: The 1-0 counted, and the guests were given a two-minute penalty for the wrongly used Coaches Challenge, in accordance with the regulations.
In the subsequent power play, the ZSC increased to 2:0 in a curious way. A shot by Alexandre Texier was deflected by Juho Lammikko and found its way into the goal over the shoulder of Kloten defender Nicolas Steiner, among others. Just over a minute later, Simon Bodenmann made it 3-0 with an artful shot into the crossbar.
The Kloteners didn’t want to do more than Arttu Ruotsalainen’s consolation goal in the 42nd minute. Too often they lacked the ability to assert themselves in the game forward. The newly promoted team, who have been so convincing so far, already have the chance to take their revenge against ZSC on Friday.
With the second win after six defeats in a row, the Lions consolidated their 4th place in the table. Ten points behind, Kloten remains within touching distance of a direct playoff place. The gap to sixth-placed Fribourg-Gottéron is only three points.
