Water main accident in Prague in Barrandov. A huge amount of water is pouring down the streets
In Barrandov, Prague, there was a water accident on Wednesday evening, which flooded the sidewalks and roads there. Prague’s water supply and sewerage system confirmed that the water leak is large and emergency units are on the scene. It is not yet clear which water supply is involved and whether the accident will affect water supplies for local residents.
The accident happened before eight o’clock in the evening in Lamačova Street, where, according to Prague Waterworks and Sewerage, three water mains converge. “There is a large water leak, but we do not yet know what kind of water supply it is. Emergency units have gone to the scene,” said TN.cz shortly after eight o’clock, company spokesman Tomáš Mrázek.
I do not yet know whether the accident will affect water supplies in households. A TV Nova reporter who shared with local residents that they still have water at home. However, they indicated their concern that they would probably not bathe in the following hours or the next day.
According to information from TV Nova, approximately 200 liters of water per second are leaking from the water supply. The footage shows streams of water pouring down the streets and flooding sidewalks and roads.
Firefighters did not go to the scene. “We are not intervening there, no one called us,” said Martin Kavka, spokesman for the Prague fire department, about half an hour after the accident.
