Vote for new quarters at A5
The Frankfurt four-party coalition is driving the development of residential areas in the northwest.
The construction of large new districts in the north-west of Frankfurt is getting closer a good five years after the start of the preparations for the investigations. On Thursday next week, the city councilors will most likely instruct the magistrate to restrict development to the area east of Autobahn 5 and to apply for a target deviation procedure from the regional land use plan for the development of this area. The coalition factions of the Greens, SPD, FDP and Volt made this clear with their votes on Tuesday evening in the city planning committee.
In addition to the Roman coalition, the faction “Die Faction” also votes to move forward with the plans. The CDU, which once proposed the development of this previously agricultural area together with the coalition partners of the federal government, the SPD and the Greens, is now opposed to the plans. It now only advertises a rounding off of the existing development – and that without development measures,
In the neighboring cities and the regional assembly, Frankfurt’s considerations for an urban development measure on both sides of the A5 met with resistance. This is one of the reasons why planning department head Mike Josef (SPD) and the coalition are now opting for a smaller solution as a kind of compromise offer. Despite the restriction to the areas east of the motorway, around 6,800 apartments could be built in three new quarters near the existing buildings in Niederursel, Nordweststadt and Praunheim, and a good 17,000 people could live there. 30 percent must be subsidized housing. There should also be space for businesses. Sites for two secondary schools and three elementary schools are planned.
Weeks ago, Josef had already drummed a lot to go into the realization now. As soon as the city parliament gives the green light, the city will quickly apply to the regional council for the plan change, he said on the sidelines of the meeting. The regional assembly then has to decide on the inclusion of the area in the land use plan,
“We can create a new Frankfurt with the new district,” said Simon Witsch (SPD) in the evening. Ecologically and socially valuable model districts could be developed in the northwest. Julia Frank (Greens) pointed out that urgently needed cheap living space could be created there.
Eyup Yilmaz (left) doubted that. And warn of a second Europaviertel or a second Riedberg. Albrecht Kochsiek (CDU) accused the coalition of not seeing the major hurdles for the construction area, “You’re riding a dead horse.”
