“Inside the sacred”, the international conference on the excavations of San Casciano dei Bagni is underway
Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow in the Aula Magna Virginia Woolf of the University for Foreigners of Siena there will be international conference “Inside the Sacred. Multiculturalism and plurilingualism in the excavation of the Bagno Grande in San Casciano dei Bagni“, dedicates to the extraordinary finds that occurred in the excavations conducted in recent years at the Bagno Grande in San Casciano dei Bagni.
The Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano confirmed his presence and will bring his greetings at the opening of the works, at 10.
The scientific meeting will have a strongly multidisciplinary approach and will see the participation as speakers of the members of the large team of scholars – over fifty – who are investigating the many aspects concerning the complex multicultural and plurilingual context that emerged from the excavation investigations. The different sessions will deal with the complexity of the archaeological deposit, the preliminary studies on the bronzes, on the other offerings (from coins to the hundreds of botanical gifts), the spatial analyzes on the sanctuary and its monumental structures, the studies on the rituals and the transitional landscape between Etruscans and Romans and will end with the first archaeometric studies dedicated to bronze sculptural masterpieces. Alongside the discussion on the state of the art and on progress in understanding the context, the conference will be a precious opportunity for an initial return of part of the study work in progress also to citizens.
The Rector of the University for Foreigners of Siena will introduce the conference Thomas Montanarithe Mayor of the Municipality of San Casciano dei Bagni Agnes Carlettithe Superintendent ABAP for the provinces of Siena, Grosseto and Arezzo Gabriele Nanetti and the President of the National Institute of Etruscan and Italic Studies Joseph Sasstelli.
The conference, promoted, coordinated and financed by the University for Foreigners of Siena, received the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of San Casciano dei Bagni and the National Institute of Etruscan and Italic Studies. The scientific direction of the conference is by Jacopo Tabolli together with Emanuele Mariotti And Ada Salvi. The photographic exhibition associated with the event is curated by Marco Pacifici and Mattia Bischeri. The Friends of Florence Foundation, the Vaseppi Foundation and the Ergon Company contributed to the financing of the event.
