The Amsterdam Court of Appeal will start the appeal process against the two men who allegedly murdered lawyer Derk Wiersum in the extra-secure courtroom at Schiphol on Tuesday. The court declared the two to thirty years in prison in 2021, after a demand from the Public Prosecution Service to life imprisonment. Wiersum (44) was one of the lawyers of the star witness in the still ongoing liquidation process around Ridouan Taghi.
Wiersum was shot dead at his Amsterdam-Buitenveldert home on September 18, 2019, when he was just getting into the car to go to work. The murder killed in like a bomb. In March 2018, the brother of key witness Nabil B. was shot dead, a few days after the Public Prosecution Service announced the existence of the deal with B.. In July 2021, the third violent death followed in the immediate vicinity of the key witness: Peter R. de Vries, who acted as his confidant, was shot in the center of Amsterdam and ended nine days later.
It is widely believed that Taghi is behind the murders to avenge himself on ‘traitor’ Nabil B. However, nothing major has yet been said in this regard. The investigation into one or more clients is still ongoing. In the liquidation process, Marengo was demanded a life sentence against Taghi last year.
The two simultaneous executors, Moreno B. (34) and GiĆ«rmo B. (39), lose that they killed lawyer Wiersum. Like the Public Prosecution Service, she has lodged an appeal against the court’s verdict. A number of witnesses are heard in the proceedings. Among other things, the eyewitnesses because the shooter’s description is the subject of discussion, because this would not be linked to that of the suspects.
The court has set aside five court days for the case up to and including 1 February.
