ECDC alert on deaths and cases in Greece
Extremely high is the number of new ones cases of coronavirus in our country in the last 14 days, according to its data wide Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC).
The data ranks our country in worst position, concerns cases in individuals over 65 years oldwhile in second place from… finally we are in the number of new Covid cases in all ages, with first one her Cyprus.
According to the recent ECDC report for the countries of the Union (EU) and the Economic Area (EEA), while in all countries is recorded reduction of new casesin Greece recorded an increase in people over 65, who are at greatest risk of severe illness and death from the infection.
Specifically, they are recorded 942 cases per 100,000 population to those above 65 years old and 691 cases per 100,000 population at all ages.
THE Average in the 27 countries for which the data are examined are 311.9 cases per 100,000 population for those over 65, which means that in Greece it is recorded triple the number of cases.
Across all ages, the European average is 161 cases per 100,000 population and in our country it is about four times higher.
Big number on Covid tests
Of course, the large number of cases could be justified by large number of tests carried out in the general population, which in our country is very high and reaches 6,240 tests per 100,000 population.
THE average across countries of Europe is 779 tests per 100,000 populationthat is, Greece has carried out approximately eight times the number of tests in the last 14 days, compared to the rest of Europe and is second in the ranking list after Cyprus.

In fact, in the last five weeks, the number of intubated people has increased by 41.3% (from 104 in mid-December to 147).

The total coverage rate of the elderly population with the second booster dose among EU countries is 34.4%while in our country it only reaches 25.5%.
