Traffic controller Marco hopes for more understanding with detours: “People keep driving hard”
Cyclists continue to ride and still want to ride their old route. The Amsterdam traffic controller Marco has to deal with it all too often. AT 5 O’CLOCK made a report earlier this week about the clear situation during work on Spaklerweg, but according to Marco, part of the resulting chaos is also really down to many road users themselves.
He is frustrated that some cyclists don’t bother to listen. “People pass us by so quickly. Often we don’t get further than the word diversion. While we prefer to tell everyone the whole story.”
According to Marco, about half of the cyclists who pass by ride an electric bicycle. That ride passes by at such a high speed that he sees no way to stop or steer in a different direction. Followed by several cyclists on the roadway in recent weeks. He will especially make it clear that traffic controllers are there for safety. “We want to prevent dangerous situations from arising.”
Most cyclists at the Spaklerweg have now realized that they have to make a detour and the situation there has improved after the average ‘acclimatization period’. As a tip, Marco always gives good yellow signs to follow and if you still don’t get it, to ask a traffic controller for help.
