This year, the Botanical Garden in Prague prepared lectures inspired by Asia for the public. Both botanists and inexperienced laymen can join in the enthusiasm. Lectures will be held every week from February 9 to April 6, she said Botanic Garden. Visitors will learn interesting things from Asian countries, the flora of Kyrgyzstan is first on the agenda. “For our visitors, we have prepared a traditional cycle of favorites, not just botanical lectures. This year in the botanical garden will be Asian, we will emphasize our exhibitions and collections that are based on Asian nature, so the lectures will be largely focused on Asia,” he said garden director Bohumil Černý.
The lectures will take place: every Thursday from 5:30 p.m., the representatives of the garden said. The ticket to the lecture will cost 150 crowns, the price includes entry to the botanical garden including the Fata Morgana greenhouse. Those interested will be able to watch the lectures online.
The garden’s curator Petr Hanzelka will speak at the first lecture entitled Steppe flowers of Kyrgyzstan, who will introduce the public to the variety of Kyrgyz nature, especially semi-desert and steppe areas.
“Many of the species that grow here can be successfully grown in our gardens. In many cases, these are very resistant plants that are able to cope with more demanding conditions here, especially with a possible lack of precipitation during spring or summer, but also frosts and winter,” said Hanzelka. They plan to inform the participants of the event about the possibilities of growing selected plants, but also about the history and monuments of Kyrgyzstan.
Other lectures focus on, for example, Thailand or Japan. Those interested can look forward to, among other things, information on traditional Ayurvedic medicine or the wintering of our birds in Asia.
According to the botanical garden, visitors can see Asian flora throughout the area, especially in the Fata Morgana greenhouse. The garden also has an Emei Shan greenhouse full of Chinese flowers or a Zen Japanese garden. Experts from the botanical garden have traveled to Asia several times, including China, Vietnam, Turkey and the Philippines.
In addition to the lectures, the garden is also planning other Asian-themed events. For example, on March 3, an exhibition of orchids originating from Vietnam will begin.
Currently, people can take part in greenhouse guided walks through the darkened spaces of Fata Morgana until March 25. From January 20 to March 26, the garden will organize a photo exhibition How to feed the birds? in the outdoor exposition of the Ornamental Garden.
