Erdogan: As long as Greece is arming the islands, it is taking steps against the Lausanne Treaty.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan launched an attack against her again, bringing Greece back to the militarization of the islands.
The Turkish president, in his statements after the Friday prayer, accused Greece of violating the Treaty of Lausanne and other agreements by militarizing the islands, while earlier, the Greek Prime Minister from Davos, was sending a message of security and stability, stating that we are not going to engage in war with Turkey.
“As long as Greece equips islands…”
“As long as Greece is arming the islands, it is taking steps against the Lausanne Treaty”, argued Erdogan, while referring to what the Prime Minister said from Davos, he claimed that: “Mitsotakis’ statements are not enough to determine the fate of the region. We see that the approach of both Lausanne and the islands is currently lacking from the Greek authorities”.

It is reminded that the Greek Prime Minister, from Davos, addressed the Turkish island claims, noting: “There is a lot of noise in Turkey about the fact that Greece is strengthening its Armed Forces. And I ask, is there any sane person who believes that the Greek islands threaten the Turkish mainland? Or is the view more realistic that the Turkish country is for the Greek islands?[…] We cannot discuss the issue of sovereignty of Greek islands. We cannot accept the fact that Turkey signs a memorandum of cooperation with Libya, denying Crete’s right to maritime zones. These are unacceptable accusations.”
Fire and against Economist
Even the British magazine The Economist was not spared from angry Erdogan, which among other things wrote that Turkey was on the verge of dictatorship and called Erdogan a “bully”.
“British Magazine Determines Turkey’s Fate? My nation defines her. Whatever my nation says, that’s what happens in Turkey,” Erdogan said.
