The Prime Minister of Greece told Maia Sandu about the possibility for Moldova to get its eyes from his country.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that Athens is investing in infrastructure development, which will further enhance the country’s role as a hub for energy supply in Southern Europe.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis informed the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, on Thursday, during a meeting at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, about the potential to supply the Republic of Moldova with natural gas from Greece, the channel reported. According to him, at the meeting between Mitsotakis and Sandu they discussed “challenges that have arisen” as a result of Russian military operations in Ukraine, as well as “the use of natural gas exports to Moscow as a pressure tool“.
“The Prime Minister emphasized that Greece is investing in infrastructure development, which will further enhance its role as an energy hub for Southern Europe, and a pillar for strengthening energy security and uninterrupted supply of an extended region, including Moldova.”, says a message from the press service of the head of the Greek government.
At the same time, Greece does not produce its own natural gas, Athens receives it via pipelines from Turkey, as well as in liquefied form from other countries. The prime minister expects that after the upcoming construction of a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification plant and Alexandroupolis storage facilities, LNG can be delivered by ship, possibly to Ukraine and then to Moldova. According to Mitsotakis, Alexandroupolis is not that far from Odesa, from which it is separated by just over 1,000 km.
Mitsotakis met in Davos with Patrick Gelsinger, CEO of the high-tech company Intel, and discussed investment opportunities in Greece, as well as opportunities for cooperation. Intel’s CEO congratulated the prime minister on Greece’s success in recent years, the TV station noted. In addition, the Prime Minister had a brief meeting with Klaus Schwab, the founder and executive chairman of the WEF.
