The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, and Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă had a meeting, on Thursday, with the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Daniel, to discuss concrete ways to more intensively support the activities of the Metropolis of Bessarabia within the BOR . .
According to a press release from the Chancellery of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church, sent to Agerpres, during the meeting, issues were discussed that actually mean that the Metropolis of Bessarabia has been “discriminated” in all aspects, for three decades, compared to the Metropolis of Chisinau and the whole of Moldova . , under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.
“The Patriarch of Romania has requested equal treatment for the Metropolis of Bessarabia, so that clerics are allowed to provide religious assistance in the army, penitentiaries and hospitals, as well as to be invited to official events to which clerics from other church structures are invited on the territory of the Republic. Moldova”, states the quoted source.
At the same time, the President of the BOR reiterated the request that the state authorities of the Republic of Moldova return the buildings of the former Faculty of Orthodox Theology and the former Theological Seminary in Chisinau. He also requested the compensatory assignment of a building in exchange for the former seat of the Metropolis of Bessarabia, which was demolished during the communist period, and the current building of the Government of the Republic of Moldova was built in its place.
Igor Grosu signaled that some of the problems regarding equal treatment are being resolved, as well as the requests regarding the assignment of some buildings to the Metropolis of Bessarabia.
The meeting of the President of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova with PF Daniel shows, according to the Romanian Patriarchy, the “opening” of the new state leadership of the Republic of Moldova to the Metropolis of Bessarabia within the Romanian Orthodox Church, as well as the “active contribution” of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, and to Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă in this “change of attitude” of the Chisinau authorities.
