Campanella: “They are green jewels that deserve to be visited”
Today, the presentation of the book “I Giardini Sottocosta. A blue route for green itineraries”, by the writer Nicoletta Campanella. The event was promoted by the Garden Club Verde Irpinia in order to organize an afternoon dedicated to the art of gardening at the highest levels and to discover the most beautiful gardens overlooking the mare nostrum.
In Campania, there are seven gardens “sottocosta” told in the volume. The Italians deeply love the sea, they are navigators and during the summer the coasts are furrowed by the most varied boats. There is a tourism that watches and observes the beauties of the area from the sea and it is precisely to them that the writer Nicoletta Campanella wanted to dedicate, with the new volume, an itinerary to discover the most interesting botanical treasures overlooking the sea.
With “Giardini Sottocosta” the author leads the reader from western Liguria to the small Vienna on the sea passing through the Cinque Terre, the Argentario, the Costiera, the Conero, the Po Delta and the islands. Each garden is equipped with all the information to book a visit and the relative approved is indicated: «In this latest book of mine, I encountered an unprecedented theme as, for the first time, I presented various itineraries of gardens “under the coast”, i.e. gardens overlooking the sea» – said Nicoletta Campanella, author of the book – «It is also new because it speaks of historic gardens and those born thanks to the great passion of gardeners who wanted to challenge the most insidious aspects of a garden such as dryness, salt and drought. They are green jewels that deserve to be visited» – added the author.
These are numerous gardens, even unknown ones, that tell the story of Italy such as, for example, the botanical garden of Porto Ercole: «For the first time we talk about the botanical garden of Porto Ercole, born from the attentions of a great man who dedicated himself to finding and acclimatizing exotic varieties» – underlined Campanella – «In the book, one also discovers a botanical heritage that the coasts have and one learns about a different dimension if these gardens are observed from the boat. Thus, it is also possible to understand the value of light and silence. Through the book we learn, at a time when the garden is changing due to climate change, how to redesign it and make it always luxuriant in an ecological way or respecting the environment and natural resources» – concluded the writer.
Nicoletta Campanella is testimonial of an unprecedented editorial genre created by herself with Nicla Edizioni, an art publishing house born around the community of the Italian Horticultural System. The fascinating world of historic gardens, gardening and the pinwheel of colorful flowers shows that wind through the most beautiful green spaces in Italy and where the writer regularly meets the public to promote the culture of greenery and the art of gardening to the most high levels. A well-known face thanks to numerous appearances on TV, the writer is also a scholar of costume and fashion inspired by flowers and an expert gardenteller of hers and an inexhaustible source of stories and botanical curiosities.
